Week of September 22nd, 2025

Parents this past week your students had the opportunity to participate in Club Rush at lunch, meet their ASB Officer, and either participate in or observe the AVID Induction Ceremony!
It was a busy, and fun week at RLS.

A few notes from our Soccer game-
Please help us take proper care of our track and field-
Fans are welcome to cheer for their student athlete from the eastern most side of the track. That means not on the lanes or the "field" just off the out of bounds line.
Additionally, fans should not be on the side of the field (western side) where the teams are with their coach.
We appreciate your support in this and it will help us show our visiting fans where to properly observe the contest from.

Get ready for our first middle school dance of the year! All sorts of awkward energy, developing dance moves, and teenage angst await! Permission slips are coming on Monday. There is more information below. We look forward to the party!

I want to throw some appreciation to one of our staff members. We have a tremendous staff who work tirelessly for our students and community. In a new role this year and last, Dana Simon has stepped up and among other things, created weekly Advisory lessons for all teachers to follow and students to engage with. Notably, in support of our AVID Schoolwide approach, the thought and intentionality that Dana has leveraged to build up to notebook organization and backpack checks has been surgical, to say the least.
Parents, ask to see your student's backpack, hopefully you see what we see. Ask them what they have learned about organization.

If you are the parent of a student with an IEP, check out the Parents in Partnership in Education Conference at Napa Valley College on Sept. 27th

Parents, exciting news! Learn more about our Phone-Free Childhood workshop series below!

8th Grade Families-You do not need to purchase a yearbook for your 8th grade. If you'd like to donate a yearbook or purchase an Advertisement celebrating your student or students, please find that information below!
Thank you to Parent Group and The Saint Helena Public Schools Foundation for their support in donating a yearbook to every 8th grade student!

6th and 7th Grade Families, below is information on how to purchase a yearbook. This year, we are offering families the chance to donate a yearbook to a family who may have challenges making that purchase. Additionally, you can purchase an advertisement celebrating your student or students though the scan codes below.

Have a great week! Link to Parent Square Calendar and our website

This Week in ACADEMICS
This week, SHUSD, RLS included, will kick off our English Language Advisory Council with a districtwide event at SHPS on Wednesday, 5-6:30. The event is open to all, if you're interested.

PLTs are hard at work reviewing formative assessment data, providing enrichment/extension and intervention as needed both during class and on Tuesdays' Access blocks.

Our AVID word of the month for September is SUMMARIZE. Summarize is a verb that means to give a brief statement of the main points of something. Students, please read this article and summarize the most important points in one paragraph.

Speaking of AVID-check out the pictures from our AVID Induction Ceremony this past Wednesday! Great job AVID students in organizing...with a little help from Marinace, Sasser, and Ms. Ana.

Does your student need a quiet place to study, get work done, or a little extra help on assignments?!

After School Academic Support HAS BEGUN! FOR ALL STUDENTS: Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays 3:10-4:10 in A1
This Week in ACTIVITIES and "Caught you demonstrating..."
The value winners for today are:
6th:       Hunter Clark / Respect
7th:       Martha Maldonado / Self Control & Perseverance
8th:       Daniel Villegas Sandoval / Integrity

Did you know that over 80% of RLS students last year reported knowing that at least one adult on campus had high expectations of them! Over 80% of RLS students also had a positive perception of our school culture and their role in it!
This is based on the California Healthy Kids Survey and our local Kelvin Survey data. Some areas for us to focus on this year, despite being above the state average, is academic motivation and meaningful participation.

We look forward to working with the leadership and yearbook classes along with finding opportunities for all students to help define what these two areas mean to them and working together to boost student perceptions in these areas while maintaining such positive experiences elsewhere.

DANCE DANCE DANCE!!!

This Friday from 4-6 in the MPR is our Back To School Dance! Encourage your student to come have a blast with the leadership and yearbook class and make some memories!

Students must stay at the dance the entire time, or parents will be called. Any student who submits a permission slip and doesn't show will have their parents called as well.

Ask your student about Club Rush...did they join a club?!
Did your student find out who their grade level representative is in ASB?  Who is the RLS Student Body President?

Coming up the week of September 29-October 3rd is SHHS Homecoming! Below is the bell schedule. As a reminder, we walk all the students to Main Street for the parade and they are released from there!
