English Language Development

Vista's English Language and Literacy Development Program (GetReady/Bridges) is a comprehensive, standards-based initiative designed to enhance middle school students' proficiency in reading and overall language skills. The program focuses on:

  • Developing essential skills in vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar to promote academic success and life-long learning.
  • Facilitating academic language development through structured support for reading and writing.
  • Engaging students with rich literary and informational texts across diverse content areas, including science, social studies, and mathematics.
  • Assisting students in accessing grade-level material with scaffolded instructional support.
  • Incorporating authentic media and digital learning tools specifically designed to support language acquisition.

To foster learning at home, you can support students by encouraging discussions such as:

  • What topics are you currently exploring in class?
  • How do you feel about the issue being discussed?
  • What is an interesting fact you’ve learned about the topic?
  • Can you explain the meaning and usage of a new word you've encountered?
