Mr. Andrew Ryan, Principal

Our mission is to ensure that all students learn at grade level or higher.

Welcome Blue Devils! We are honored and thrilled to have you and your family with us here at Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School.

At RLS, we offer rigorous coursework in a safe and nurturing small school environment, along with a schedule that allows us to meet the individual needs of each student. In addition to our core classes, our students have access to a rich array of electives and enrichment courses, intervention as needed, a weekly socio-emotional learning and organization period, as well as a daily guided wellness practice.

Additionally, we offer weekly intervention, enrichment, or study hall sessions based on student needs, as determined by our highly trained staff, all in a small group setting.

Our rich electives program includes courses commonly only found in much larger schools such as:

  • Spanish
  • Art
  • Video/tech
  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
  • Band, Choir, Orchestra and Drama
  • Leadership and Yearbook

AT RLS, we prioritize a positive and engaging learning environment through high expectations of our students, student activities, rallies, dances, and hands-on learning.

Along with our full-time counselor, we partner with local therapists to provide one-on-one and small-group counseling to identified students.

Where Everyone Belongs (WEB) teams 8th-grade leaders with 6th grade students to support their transition, build a sense of connection and lower the anxiety around “middle school”.

We approach discipline through a philosophy that seeks to identify and remedy the underlying cause of the behavior or issue, address it and apply reasonable consequences such that students can heal the harm, atone for the behavior and move on successfully.

Anti-bullying isn’t just an assembly or special day at RLS; it’s who we are each and every day. All students and staff have access to the StopIt platform to report bullying and inappropriate behavior confidentially.

The incredible support we receive from our families, Parent Group and our community allows us to provide our students with many extra opportunities to enrich their educational journey. We are so fortunate to live and work in the wonderful community of St. Helena and we are proud to welcome you to our school!
