Week of September 2nd, 2025-NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY

alt_text
RLS! This week we launched our Mission...We Have Lift Off! I'll be sharing a slide show of pictures, videos, and related material that support our Mission, which states: At RLS, we ensure, that all students can learn at grade level or higher!

This past week all students participated in our new benchmark assessment called the STAR in ELA and Math. We will be providing this as a measure of growth 4 more times through out the year. Contrary to the MAP assessment used in previous years, this is a nationally normed* assessment and takes must less time to administer than the MAP, which impacted two entire days of school each time we gave it.
*This means that the test results are compared to a large, representative sample of students across the United States. This national norming allows educators to understand a student's performance not just in relation to their peers at the school, but also how they compare to millions of students nationwide. This is a key feature that helps identify students who may need additional support or enrichment.

Remember to hold next Wednesday from 5:30-7:15 PM for our Back To School Night. All families are invited to a kick off in the gym at 5:30. At 5:45 we will break into two groups; all families who desire the the presentation and evening in Spanish, will join us in the library at 5:45 and those who will continue in English will begin following their student's schedule to their teacher's classrooms.

Parents, be on the lookout in your email inbox (check your spam/junk as well) for an invitation to receive google classroom updates from your students teachers.

If you are the parent of a student with an IEP, check out the Parents in Partnership in Education Conference at Napa Valley College on Sept. 27th

Students: All middle school aged students who wish to attend Saints home football games must be accompanied by an adult/parent. You will not be allowed to purchase a ticket and enter without.

Please review the Spectator Policies and what you can do to promote good sportsmanship:

SHHS Spectator Code of Conduct
What Spectators Can Do to Promote Good Sportsmanship:

  1. Students in Pre-kindergarten through 8th grade WILL NOT BE ADMITTED to athletic events without a parent/adult. Older high school siblings are not a substitute.
  2. Remember that SHHS athletes play organized sports for their own fun. They are not pro athletes.
  3. Condemn the use of violence in all forms. Harassing officials, players, or coaches or spectators who display inappropriate or unsafe behavior, as deemed by attending site administrator, Athletic Director, Officials or Coach will be asked to leave and will not be allowed readmittance
  4. Show respect for SHHS’s opponents. Without them there would be no games.
  5. Never criticize any student athlete for making a mistake during a competition.
  6. Respect officials’ decisions.
  7. Encourage players to always play according to the rules.
  8. Items such as frisbees, balls, bats, skateboards, bicycles, etc. are not allowed.
  9. Animals, unless legally licensed and clearly identified as a service/support animal, are not allowed in athletic stadiums or gymnasiums.

Spectator Policy
SHHS adheres to the California Interscholastic Federation code of ethics based upon the adoption of the “Pursuing Victory With Honor” program. The CIF, North Coast Section Spectator Policy is based upon its pillars of that program, which include Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
  1. All persons must remain in the designated home/visitor spectator areas at all times. This includes halftimes, quarters, time outs, etc.
  2. Only positive comments or cheers will be addressed to any participant at the event, including visiting teams, visiting fans and referees.
  3. While on school property, the Spectator Policy will be in effect and enforced.
Failure to adhere to this policy could result in, but not limited to:
  • Removal from the event
  • Non-attendance at future events.

This Week in ACADEMICS
Education Services Director, Aracely Romo-Flores visited our 6th grade ELA class this week and taught a lesson using Thinking Maps! Using Thinking Maps in ELA instruction helps students visually organize their thoughts and ideas, making complex concepts like story structure and character analysis easier to understand and remember. By providing a common language and set of tools, these maps empower students to become more confident and independent thinkers and writers.
Ms. Hellwig's science class got acquainted with school garden...much to harvest and learn on RLS' campus!
Hello RLS Devils!  Our AVID word of the month for September is SUMMARIZE. Summarize is a verb that means to give a brief statement of the main points of something. Students, please read this article and summarize the most important points in one paragraph.
This Week in ACTIVITIES and "Caught you demonstrating..."
6th:       Janelli Perez Castro / Respect
7th:       Julio Ramirez / Respect
8th:       Maggie Dewyer / Respect

Soccer games starting in two weeks!
Tryouts for the Girls Basketball team will take place on Wednesday, September 3, and Thursday, September 4, from 3:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. All grade levels are welcome to try out, but must have a completed sports physical on file before the tryout dates.
*Remember, even if your student doesn't play soccer or girl's basketball but plans on playing a different sport this year for the school...we need a current physical on file or they can't even tryout! Please, don't wait as tryouts will occur regardless.
