Final Newsletter for the 24/25 School Year
Folks, we did it!
I want to personally thank you for another fantastic year. Coming to RLS two years ago was, next to moving home from Chico at 22 years old to teach and coach at my former middle school and living in my parents garage where I later met my wife (at the school, not the garage), the greatest professional decision of my life! I absolutely love it here and am grateful, daily, for you,  your students, and our amazing staff!
I hope this summer is a restful, exciting, reflective time for you and your family. For those that will be joining us next year, we are excited to have you back and will be in touch come August with some important dates. I have begun a list below and you always have our calendar linked below as well.
For those heading off to high school, thank you for your years of support and best of luck at the next level. Remember, It'll get more difficult to engage in conversation about your student's day or identify ways to support them, but never stop trying. I like to try and be a "submarine" parent. Always present, just below, ready to surface in crisis!
I was going to review the hundreds of pictures I've taken this year and put a highlight stream below. Then I remembered how busy the last week of the school year is. I encourage you to go through the newsletters and review the many highlights of our school year!
Some that come to mind right now are:
  • So many more rallies, activities, and spirit weeks with a year-long leadership class
  • Visual and performing arts performances to sold out crowds at the PAC
  • Being acknowledged as an AVID Schoolwide Designation School
  • Invited by Solution Tree to apply for Professional Learning Community Model School-Promising Practices designation
  • Increased academic achievement in a variety of capacities including but not limited to:
    • Cohort growth in Math and ELA
    • English Learner progress on the ELPAC
    • Several reclassifications
  • Outstanding school culture and high expectations of students by teachers as demonstrated on the California Healthy Kids Survey and the Kelvin Survey
  • Launch of the 40-book challenge schoolwide
  • Maintain tradition of a wonderful Yosemite trip for our 8th grade students
And so many more!

Our staff will be hard at work this summer attending a variety of professional development such as Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), structured literacy for secondary schools, wellness and healthy lifestyle for students, and others.

We are excited to welcome Anjali Chandran to our site next year for periods 4,5,6, and 7 to support our English Learners. Anjali has taught for the past several years at the Primary and Elementary schools and will continue to do so.

We are introducing some additional schedule shifts next year that will serve to provide both enrichment and academic support for the 25/26 school year. We look forward to sharing those in the fall.
Our office will be closed starting June 24 and will reopen August 1, 2025.
